On behalf of Local Organizing Committee, you are warmly invited to attend the 10th International
Abalone Symposium (IAS 2018) in Xiamen, China from May 8 to 12, 2018.
Abalone has long been valuable and luxury seafood in China, which is commonly known as Bao
Yu. Thanks to the more sophisticated abalone aquaculture technologies, the availability of
commercially farmed abalone has allowed more common consumption of this once rare delicacy. In
2018, the International Abalone Symposium returns after 15 years back to China – center of the
world’s largest abalone aquaculture area. As we all know, about 90% of the world’s abalone in
2016 was produced in China, in which about 80% of the abalones were from Fujian Province, where
Xiamen City is located.
Xiamen, an island city formerly known in Western circles as Amoy, is emerging as southern China’s
well-developed city. Famous of the lure of its long seaside promenade and integration of Chinese
and Western architecture style, Xiamen attracts more than 5 million people all over the world
for the beautiful scenery every year.
The IAS 2018 programs will follow the tradition and focus on the fisheries management,
physiology and ecology, aquaculture technology, processing and marketing. All programs have been
developed to facilitate and promote communication through social events, abalone festival,
exhibitions, workshops, plenary speeches, oral presentations in theme sessions, and poster
presentation sessions. The 10th International Abalone Symposium will provide you a perfect
opportunity to share the most up-to-date research achievements and interact with industrial
representatives and policy makers. Field trip will be a good optional activity for you to
explore the abalone farming technology and recent status of Chinese abalone industry.
Welcome to the world’s abalone aquaculture center and we are looking forward to seeing you in
Xiamen in May 2018.
